Happy 2019 to everybody!!
Between 2005 and 2015 I was working, from time to time, on my metal project CAUTIVA. Initially, the idea was to record some demo material by myself in order to create a band in Granada, but the project quickly turned into the concept of a “one-man band” — that is to say, one guy composing and recording all the music with minimal (or zero) external help. I thought this would be the best way to achieve the goals I had set for myself and, with little knowledge and equipment but a lot of willpower, I began to record some of the material I’m most proud of. Though in the first two years the musical direction wasn’t clear, later the style became very specific: technical and progressive thrash metal. During those years, in addition to other projects, I released for CAUTIVA: a 2-song demo (2007), an EP/demo called «Fire, Walk With Me!» (2008), an album that received a rather good reception at the time («Human», 2009) and a final farewell EP («The Archangel Of Omega», 2015). With «The Archangel Of Omega» I took CAUTIVA to the highest level I could and then I closed the door on the project indefinitely, probably forever…
Today, after more than a year of silence, I can say that I’m once again working on my own music. Even though I continue with the idea of making electronic music (I just ignored my own music during the last year for a variety of reasons! Fucking bastard! :-P), a few months ago I started working on a new extreme metal project. In August and September I was busy with pre-production, sound, and essential equipment. Then I began to record some ideas, but the recording/mixing project was so complex and demanding that I had to make a radical decision: even though I had a good and powerful computer at that time, it was impossible to work properly with it. So I had to design and build a much more powerful computer to handle the recording procedures I needed. Luckily I was able to set up the new computer myself — it was a nice experience and I learned a lot about hardware, little by little — but the decision to build a new computer for music was really dramatic for me in terms of time. Since my setup is mainly software-based and I also have a full-time job, I had to spend a long time installing dozens and dozens of programs, libraries, configurations, and so on until everything was as it had been on the previous computer (I needed to load my pre-production project properly in order to keep working). I think I did all this in November, and it was really frustrating to spend so many days on such a task… but the hard work paid off: now my computer works 100%, is better organized than before, and — most importantly — handles perfectly the recording/mixing project I’ve been building for it. I hope this new computer will last for at least a good number of years! Hahaha!
But let’s get back to the important part: the music! What can I say about this new “extreme metal project”??? Well, here’s the conceptual idea I have in my head: death metal, very low tuning (Bb), raw sound, Lovecraftian universe, ancient cultures, experimentation, and influences from bands like Morbid Angel, Nile, Behemoth, and all that crazy and wonderful stuff… If it feels right and the project evolves in the “correct” direction, I might use the name CAUTIVA again — but I guess it will probably be different enough that I’ll need to use another name (which I already have! :-). Time will tell!
Here you have the first two recorded minutes of the track I’m working on right now. A bit strange, yes, but it’s just the introductory part of the song 🙂
I’m not in a hurry with this project; I work on it when I feel like it, from time to time. But I hope to stay consistent and get results!
Well… it’s been a long time since I wrote anything here and I had a few things to say. That felt good. I hope to keep writing more posts here and also to work a bit on other electronic ideas I have in mind.
LOVE,
