Well, I have my studio ready -more or less- to work with electronic music, I’ve finished the tribute to Tangerine Dream and I have a lot of ideas in my head, but… what’s the next step??? What’s expected of José Travieso and his music today???
As always, I don’t close to anything and I would like to say that I’m going to do a million of things, but unfortunately I must not forget that I have a very limit time to dedicate to my music because my job and family and I don’t want to feel again the pressure I felt a few years ago (2010/11 period) with all it and that carried me to leave the music for a time. So, I must say I’ll go slowly, but something will be made for sure 🙂
In summary, this is what I expect from this new period in my musical life:
-I don’t want to think about different styles in a same time like I was doing in the past. I want to concentrate in electronic music, the vintage electronic music I love: Tangerine Dream, Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis, Klaus Schulze, Robert Rich, etc. I don’t rule out any latest thing, as it’s EDM for example (which usually I hate by the way), but I want to focus on the styles, methods and sounds that I like and admire.
-Cautiva is dead. What’s about my piano solo style, I would like to record more stuff in the future, but actually I see more like playing with electric piano, or using the piano in an ambient or electronic context and so on.
-I don’t know how much time all this will last. It can be a few of months or a lot of years. I don’t frankly know and I don’t care about it!
-I’m not so interested in recording new stuff but improvising, experiencing, enjoying, reading, learning… Recording will be just a part. In this new period the approach is not doing new music, but enjoying of everything electronic music can offers me from a creative perspective. I expect to record a few of tracks per year, but not much.
-When I think about recording, my perspective is not thinking about albums, but individual tracks, like “mini-projects”. This has been my usual method of creating and I like how flows. Ideas like “let’s record a long ambient piece like 2350 by Pete Namlook and Tetsu Inoue”, or “let’s make a piece based on vintage electric piano, improvisations and with a long reverb and strings in the old Vangelis style”, etc. For example, my tribute to Tangerine Dream has been the first of these mini-projects. From this perspective, I continue seeing the EP format much more suitable than albums, but time will say.
-In any case, not physical releases at all. Nowadays, in my private life and my own collections, I see CDs as a disturbing and outdated thing, so I see no sense to have interest in releasing some of my music in this format. Only streaming and download, as I actually work with my own collections of music.
This is, more or less, a summary of my actual statements.
So, what’s the next step? I don’t really now! The only thing I know it’s that I have to clean this room. Later I’ll see 🙂
