MOVING TO A DEFINITIVE STUDIO LOCATION 🙂

Finally, the provisional studio setup I arranged in April/May of last year has lasted much less than I expected –and that’s a good thing. Like last April, I’m moving again to a new house, but this time it offers a very good, spacious and comfortable room where I hope to install my definitive recording studio. The room is really great and will be dedicated exclusively to my studio. I’ve been looking for this opportunity for years, and I finally had the chance, so I took it!

I suppose in March I’ll upload some pictures or a video. Meanwhile, I’ll be very busy and won’t have time for music for at least three or four weeks. 🙁 It’s a pity, but the change is absolutely worth it! 🙂

FUTURE PROJECTS:

Last month I finished a track for one of the projects I have in mind for 2017. I’ll share it soon!

For now, I want to share my current “statements” for 2017 and beyond. It’s good for me to write them here, because later it helps me to organize my thoughts, make decisions, and so on. In short, this is what I have in mind for the future:

-As always, I have many ideas about different projects and genres floating around in my head, but I want to continue focusing on electronic music. As I said at the end of 2015: “I want to focus on the vintage electronic music I love: Tangerine Dream, Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis, Klaus Schulze, Robert Rich, etc. I don’t rule out newer things, but I want to concentrate on the styles, methods, and sounds that I admire.” Electronic music is not as perfect for me as I thought at the beginning (for example, I don’t enjoy some aspects of the recording process), but I still keep the same perspective as in 2015. I think that’s good. Stability, I mean.

-I still see all this as a process of learning and creation in which recording music is just one part. Improvising, experimenting, enjoying, reading, studying, learning… Recording will remain just one piece of the whole. As I wrote in 2015: “In this new period, the goal is not simply making new music, but enjoying everything electronic music can offer me from a creative perspective.” From this approach, recording happens from time to time, so it’s not possible to produce a lot. There are many other things to do. Anyway, I’ll try to keep a certain rhythm, as I did last year.

-This year, regarding recordings, I want to focus on two main projects. If everything goes well, each will become an EP. The first is more melodic electronic music, connected to my last album, «Navigator», but with a more modern sound. The track I finished last month (and will share soon) belongs to this project. The second project is ambient music.

-Sometimes I think about Cautiva, so maybe one day I’ll bring it back a little! A year ago, Cautiva was a forgotten thing, but now, from time to time, I feel it would be nice to record a new song. Not now, but maybe in 2018… I just wanted to share that the door to Cautiva isn’t completely closed – maybe 90% closed :-/

-Long-term possible projects: sometimes I think about making an album inspired by the old Mike Oldfield style («Hergest Ridge», «Tubular Bells», «Ommadawn» and so on). It would be something entirely new for me, which excites me. It would also require a lot of work and some new instruments, but I like the idea. For now, it’s just a fantasy, but time will tell.

-Another long-term possible project: I’ve been talking with a friend about recording something together in the old progressive rock style of Goblin, maybe with an eighties sound, many guitars, and some experimentation… Maybe nothing will come of it, but this project is in a “conceptual stage” right now, and it might start to take shape…

-Improvisation. This was my unfinished task in 2016. I did some things, but far less than I wanted. So in 2017, I’ll try to focus more on improvising electronic music.

hese are my statements for 2017 and beyond. Let’s see what finally happens…

Best!
